A year after her bitter divorce with ex-husband Peter Cook, Christie Brinkley says, “I would never get married again”, she vows to herself for never make the same mistake again.
“I totally believe in true love, and I think couples should celebrate their love over and over again,” she says, “[but] right at the beginning of a relationship, I would formalize an exit strategy.”
Christie Brinkley says she was outraged by suggestions by the media that she aired her grievances for public sympathy at the expense of the couple’s two children Jack Paris, 14, and Sailor Lee, 10 ½. “Maybe I can try again to clear this up,” the 55 years old former supermodel tells the July issue of Ladies Home Journal. “Divorce courts in New York are always open to the public. I didn’t want special treatment.”
Although she and Cook ended on bad terms, she found solace with her second ex-husband, Billy Joel, who is godfather to her child.
“Billy’s great. He’s godfather to Jack and Sailor, and you know there have been times when I have had to spend time with lawyers or whatever and he’s babysat. He lives nearby, so he’s like, ‘Send ‘em over here!’”
With the divorce now behind her, Christie is looking towards the future with her children Daughter Alexa, 23 and her only child with Billy, is pursuing a career in music as songwriter and performer and it looks as though her younger brother will follow suit, “Jack is our rocker”, Christie says. What could bring Brinkley to smile beside her child’s musical instrument? Without hesitate she says,”The sound of my children’s footsteps.”
I say, everyday is a lesson for everyone, can not regrets what happened, can hoping for the best for tomorrow.
