The Royal Family Mourning Period After Prince Philip Passing

The Duke Edinburgh, Prince Philip, died on April 9 at the age of 99 in his private apartment at Windsor Castle, few weeks after a lengthy hospitalization. And following his passing, Queen Elizabeth II‘s wishes the two weeks of royal mourning from the date of her husband’s death.

Friday marks the end of a two-week period of mourning for the British Royal family. The mourning period lasted almost one week longer than the national mourning period which was held from April 9 to April 17, the day Prince Philip was laid to rest at a ceremonial royal funeral which is held in Windsor, England.

Queen Elizabeth II turned 95 last Wednesday. The Queen received many good wishes for this significant age marker. The Queen gave thanks for good wishes and condolences;

“I have, on the occasion of my 95th birthday today, received many messages of good wishes, which I very much appreciate,” the statement read. “While as a family we are in a period of great sadness, it has been a comfort to us all to see and to hear the tributes paid to my husband, from those within the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and around the world.”

“My family and I would like to thank you for all the support and kindness shown to us in recent days. We have been deeply touched, and continue to be reminded that Philip had such an extraordinary impact on countless people throughout his life.”

During the national period of mourning, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge both visit to the Air Training Corps in East London. It was significant to respect Prince Philip who had served as Air Commodore-in-Chief of the Air Training Corps for 63 years until 2015, when he passed the military patronage on to Middleton who became Honorary Air Commandant.

Prince William and Kate Middleton both wore black to carry on in remembrance of The Duke of Edinburgh.

Prince Philip’s funeral was attended by his and the Queen’s four children; Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. As well their couple, Camilla Duchess of Cornwall, Anne’s husband, Timothy Laurence and Edward’s wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex.

Also Prince Philip’s grandchildren, include; Peter Philips, Zara Tindall, Prince William, Prince Harry, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie. Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn also were in attendance. Also their couple who join their royal spouses at the family event; Kate middleton, Zara Tindall’s husband, Mike Tindall, Princess Eugenie’s husband, Jack Brooksbank and Princess Batrice’s husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle did not attend to the funeral of Prince Philip due to her heavily pregnancy. The funeral service marked as Harry first time met his family after more than a year as well as since their interview with Oprah Winfrey. And returned after the funeral ceremony.

Prince Philip married then Princess Elizabeth in 1947 and is the longest serving royal consort in British history.

Prince Philip was admitted to a London hospital after feeling unwell on February 16. Then he underwent a procedure for a pre-existing heart condition at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital before being transferred back to King Edward VII hospital on March 5 and ultimately released home on March 16. And stay at Windsor Castle, west of London with the Queen, during England’s corona virus lockdown.

The royal family confirmed the Duke of Edinburgh’s death on April 9 in a statement.

“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle,” the statement reads.
