While her application for adopting Mercy James, a Malawian Girl denied, Madonna the Material Girl was heartbroken. But she did not give up easily, she appeal and won. Finally the 3 years old girl can join with her brood at her new home.
Alan Chinula, her lawyer, told press, “It’s the early hours in New York now but my client has been awake all night waiting for this. She was ecstatic when I broke the news to her. She said, ‘Thank heavens'”.
Chief Justice Lovemore Munlo said that Madonna’s continuous efforts to help disadvantaged children should have been taken into consideration while the court debated on her adoption request.
According to the AP, the singer’s charity Raising Malawi has helped to provide medical care, education, and food to more than 1 million orphans.
Chinula added, “As her lawyer I am happy that this has settled this contentious issue”.
The next step in the process is for Madonna to arrange for a private jet to pick up Mercy via Philippe Van Der Bossche, the director of her Raising Malawi charity.
