She knows what it feels as a busy working mom, many to take care and mostly forget about herself. The Emmy-nominated, Elizabeth Banks has teamed up with the American Heart Association to direct and star, a short film, Go Red for Women – Just a Little Heart Attack, which is inspired by a real-life of women who have been affected by heart disease.

The 37-years-old actress has her own reason to be involved. And it to draw attention to women about taking care themselves first, and through Parade she speaks.

“I thought it was a really strong idea that would appeal to women and be a great way to get the message out. We spoke to a very prominent female cardiac surgeon who said that she very rarely performs open-heart surgery on women because they don’t make it to the table. If found that very fascinating. We take care of everyone in our lives except for ourselves. I found that to be true in my own life. I think it’s just a quality that women all share — a little mothering quality that we all have. We literally do so many things before we get to our health. I just wanted to draw attention to that and make women think a little bit about taking care of themselves first.”

Maintaining the health of yourself is all that matters before practice the nature of motherhood to anyone surround us. And Banks shares about what she thinks in healthy.

I believe very strongly in living an active lifestyle and eating healthfully. I think we all know what’s bad for us and what’s good for us. When you go to the grocery store and you see a candy bar, it’s better to eat a banana. So I eat more bananas than candy! I drink a lot of water and a lot of teas. I don’t diet. I just try to be very smart about my choices.”

Married to Max Handelman, sportswriter and producer, they blessed a boy, Felix last March. And as any working mom, the star of 30 Rock also has difficulties to juggling between new motherhood and her busy career, and getting its solution through the help of her family.

“I find it difficult! I miss my son when I’m not with him, but I have great help. As people say, it takes a village. I’m a big believer in that. I grew up with my cousins and my aunts all around me. Now I live in Los Angeles where I have no family. You just have to find great help.”

She’s not only reliable on the things above, but also dedicated to work she does.
“I really liked being the boss. That was fun. Of course, I had a great actress to direct! I had a really great time putting the pieces together with everyone.”
